Sorabora wawa sinhala essay

Sorabora Wewa is located in the Mahiyangana area in the Badulla District. It is a lake built during the reign of King Dutugemunu. There are many folk tales about this lake from generation to generation.

King Dutugemunu came to Mahiyangana to repair the Mahiyangana Dagoba. The betel giant was entrusted with the task of serving betel to the king. It is said that the king used to serve the king and in his spare time the giant dug Sorabora Wewa.

The lake is formed by a tank bund built between two rocks. There is no bisho box here. The sluice is made of perforated black stone.

King Dutugemunu who inspected this lake said, “I am amazed at your heavy irrigation industry.” Harabara Wewa was later robbed.

This is a large field cultivated around the lake. Freshwater fishermen also make a living from this lake. The Vienna Canal built under the Mahaweli Project fills the Mahaweli with water in addition to the Sorabora Lake.

Indigenous peoples are another community connected to Sorabora Wewa. They participate in the Mahiyangana Perahera and bathe in the Sorabora tank.
